Pastelon ( Plantain & Beef Casserole) Recipe Below. Enjoy!

Pastelon De Platano Maduro Recipe Con Carne Molida

Ingredients Ground Beef

-1 Package of Ground beef
-3 Garlic cloves
-Half of a tomato, Diced
-1/4 of an onion, Diced
-1/4 Cilantro, Chopped
-2 Package of Sazon
-1 Tbs of complete seasoning
-1 Tbs of Garlic powder
-1 Tsp of Adobo
-2 Tbs of Tomato sauce
-9 Plantains or as needed
– Frying oil as needed
-2 Eggs

Ground Beef Recipe

Place a pan on medium heat on the stove, without oil or water.
Once the pan is hot, place the whole pack of ground beef inside the pan.
Stir until its been cooked, it should turn this color

Now chop the cilantro and dice the onions and the tomato

IMG_2419Reduce the heat and start adding the cilantro
Add the diced onions
Add the diced tomato’s
IMG_2420IMG_2421IMG_2422Add garlic. I like to use this cheese shredder it makes it easier to cut

IMG_2426Now add 2 packages of Sazon, this gives it flavor and color
Add 1 table spoon of complete seasoning
Add 1 table spoon of garlic powder
Add 1 table spoon of Adobo

Mix it all together

IMG_2435Finally add 2 table spoons of tomato sauce
Let it simmer for about 10 minutes and it should be done:)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Now cut off the corners of the plantain. Slice the middle and peel off the skin
IMG_2438Slice the plantain in long slice’s as shown

IMG_2440Now, add oil to a pan and turn  the temperature to medium heat

Once the oil is hot, fry the plantains till their golden brown on each side

Place the plantains on a plate with napkins to soak the oil

Now, in a bowl crack 2 eggs
Mix eggs

This dish gets a little messy so i use the disposable aluminum pan. Spread some of the egg wash enough to cover the bottom of the pan.( not too much)
IMG_2448Start placing the plantains the way shown in the picture
IMG_2450Cover the bottom of the pan with the plantains
IMG_2452Now add the ground beef, add a layer of ground beef

Make sure you cover the layer of plantains. It should look like this

Now layer the ground beef with the plantains.As you can see this is almost like a lasagna. If you want, you can add another layer. Its the same process

Pour egg wash on top of the plantains, just to seal the casserole together ( not too much) It should look like a glaze of egg wash

    OMG!! I found this on facebook. When I was a teenager my friend’s mom made this for dinner (with cheese). I remember trying to describe it to my mother. I told her it was like plantain lasagna. She was confused and never tried to replicate it. Many years later I tried to replicate it and it turned out so weird lol. Thank you for posting it! I now know what I did wrong. I didn’t precook the plantains!! And my seasoning was off too. Thank you thank you!!

Harina de Maiz! I grew up eating Harina de Maiz wi Harina de Maiz! I grew up eating Harina de Maiz with lots of cinnamon on top! 

We all have a different name for this! Some may call it Crema de Maiz or Farina de Maiz.
